A GATSBY AFFAIR
Last month, I made a trip back to England for a very exciting event: my sister's Gatsby themed wedding! This would also mark the first time that my boyfriend of over a year, Broc, would be meeting my family... but more on that later.
I arrived a week early to spend some time with my family and to help my sister with her wedding preparations. Turns out there's a lot "Umm, I don't know's" when it comes to wedding planning. We spent more hours than I'd like to admit designing order of the day's to print. A few days before the wedding, we headed to a fun bridal party put on by some of her friends. Delicious food was had and embarrassing underwear was given.
The next day, however, I woke up feeling awful. Like food poisoning awful. The Friday before the weekend, everyone left for the pre-wedding party and I was bedridden, unable to hold anything down. When my mom came back to check on me, I was in such a miserable state that she loaded me into the car and off to the hospital we went. After five hours of hanging out in the ER on a fluid drip, it was decided that I had caught a viral bug and I was deemed" extremely contagious".
On the ride home my mom starts to look a little pale, saying she's not feeling well. We chalk it up to the sketchy vending machine snacks and continue the journey home. Once we get to our rental apartment, my mom bolts, and I am essentially quarantined to my bedroom, while my sisters laugh and drink wine in the next room. Feeling sorry for myself, I start feeling even worse for Broc who is nearing the end of his 15 hour journey to get to me. Broc left San Francisco on the Thursday evening, arrived in Mortehoe, England on Friday night and then left again to get back to work on Monday morning. That's why he's the best.
Broc arrives, we say our pleasantries through the door and I am then informed that my mom has caught the bug and is now back in hospital. Fantastic. I go back to my delirious slumber and Broc heads to the bar with my brother-in-law for a well deserved beverage.
On the actual day of Tamsyn's wedding a miracle happened: the sun came out in England. Everyone had stopped puking, the weather was beautiful and the Gatsby getups were amazing. It was going to be a great day. I decided to leave my camera at home for the reception part, but I did get to snap a few of the beautiful bride getting ready. Enjoy!
